Lynn Road uses the Capturing Kids Hearts program school-wide. This program focuses on making relationships in the classroom and making students accountable for their behavior. Each classroom will have a social contract created by students that they will sign and agree to follow. Each day the students will rate how they did and try to earn a great day.
4 QUESTIONS TO REDIRECT STUDENTS1. What are you doing? 2. What are you supposed to be doing? 3. Are you doing it? 4.What are you going to do about it?
~What will happen if you break our social contract again?
BUCKET FILLERSOne of my favorite children's books is "How Full is your Bucket?". It talks about how everyone has an imaginary bucket. When you are kind to someone, it fills their bucket and it also fills your bucket. When we treat each other badly it dips their bucket and we need to work hard to fill it back up. We have a small bucket in the classroom that students can help fill by being kind to each other. Once the bucket is filled we vote on a special prize. For example, we may have extra recess, a special snack or play a game together to celebrate.
REWARDSStudents are able to earn tickets through out the day. Once students earn a certain amount of tickets, they can earn a trip to the coupon box. We will also do table team points to earn stickers at the end of the day or week. To keep things fun, I like to give out special notes to students that are showing good character. It is just a small note to show I noticed their effort and they can share with their family.
